At St. Bonaventure Academy, we are proud to honor the rich heritage and enduring spirit of the O-non-dowa-gah (Seneca), also known as the “Great Hill People.” This deep connection to Seneca culture stems from our sister institution, St. Bonaventure University, which sits on the historic homeland of the Seneca. The Seneca people, the westernmost of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, are known as the "Keeper of the Western Door" and have long exemplified strength, unity, and wisdom through their history, diplomacy, and traditions.

In the Seneca language, Do:ge:h means “Together.” This phrase captures the essence of our monthly giving program, which unites our community in shared purpose and mutual support. Like the Three Sisters—corn, beans, and squash, known as Deohako or “the life supporters”—we believe each of us brings unique strengths to nourish and sustain our collective mission.
